Endowment Program

The endowment program was established as a long-term way to invest in future generations of Linworth UMC worshipers. Whether we give through an estate plan, a special gift, or as part of our regular giving, the endowment funds provide a way for future disciples to carry on the work of the Lord. The principal from donations to these funds is held permanently, and only a percentage of its market value is distributed annually.

The endowment program is intended for purposes that are not a part of the church’s programs which are funded through the annual operating budget. Donations may be directed to one of three categories:

  • Missions Fund (for missions in and beyond the local church community)
  • Property Fund (for improvements, additions to, or construction of physical facilities)
  • General Fund (for special needs and ministries determined by the church leadership)

Gifts of $500 or greater may be recognized with an engraved leaf on the Endowment Tree. Gifts of $5,000 or greater may be recognized with an engraved rock beneath the tree.

If you have any questions about donating to an endowment fund, email endowment@linworthumc.org.

Sponsored Worship Gifts

We offer the opportunity for individuals or families to sponsor worship gifts such as bread and water and altar flowers that enhance our worship experience.

These sponsored gifts not only add beauty and meaning to our worship services, but they also provide a way for individuals to honor loved ones, celebrate special occasions, or express their gratitude for blessings received.

Sponsoring a worship gift is a meaningful way to participate in our community and to share in the joy and blessings of worship with others.

If you are interested in sponsoring a worship gift, click here to view available dates or contact our church office for more information on how to get involved.

Types of Gifts

Altar Flowers

Flowers are exquisite expressions of God’s creation, embodying the splendor, diversity, and vibrancy of the natural world. They remind us of the beauty that surrounds us and the awe-inspiring creativity of our Creator. Placing flowers on our altar is a way to honor and celebrate the abundant gifts of creation that God has bestowed upon us.

The presence of flowers also serves to create a visually appealing and uplifting atmosphere within our worship space. The vibrant colors and natural beauty of flowers contribute to a sense of joy, serenity, and sacredness. They help to create a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment that encourages us to engage fully in our worship, prayer, and reflection.

As we behold the beauty of flowers, we are reminded of the loving presence of our Creator and inspired us to live lives that reflect the beauty and grace we find in God’s creation.

Bread and Water

Each week in our services, the symbols of bread and water are present to represent the sacraments of baptism and holy communion. The sight of bread and water are meant to remind us of the abundant grace, mercy, and love that God extends to us, to inspire us to live out our faith in service to others, and to be nourished and sustained by the life-giving presence of Christ.

__________________________

The bread represents the body of Christ, as Jesus Himself said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35). In the sacrament of Holy Communion, we remember and celebrate the Last Supper, where Jesus broke bread and shared it with His disciples.
The presence of bread in our sacred space each week embodies His selfless sacrifice and serves as a tangible representation of both His presence among us, and of our spiritual connection with one another.
__________________________

Water is a powerful symbol throughout scripture, representing purification, renewal, and the work of the Holy Spirit. In our United Methodist tradition, water serves as a reminder of our baptism, a sacred moment when we are welcomed into the family of God. It signifies a significant milestone in our spiritual journey.

The presence of water in our sacred space represents the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is a symbol of the life-giving presence of God, refreshing and rejuvenating us as we seek to live faithfully.

__________________________

Together, bread and water on our altar invite us into a deeper understanding of our faith. They symbolize Christ’s sacrificial love, His ongoing presence, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. They call us to gather as a community, to remember our shared heritage, and to commit ourselves to a life of discipleship.

Gifts & Memorial Fund

The Gifts & Memorial Fund provides members and friends of Linworth UMC with opportunities to make gifts that can provide immediate financial support for LUMC programs and ministries outside the annual operating budget and the regular giving of its members. Donations to the Gifts & Memorial Fund are typically made in recognition of someone meaningful to you or to memorialize someone who has passed away.

If you wish to memorialize someone in perpetuity, please consider a gift to the Linworth UMC Endowment Fund as an alternative.
