In 2015, areas in South Carolina were devastated by floods as many residents were displaced from their homes.  Feeling a close connection with the people of South Carolina, Linworth United Methodist Church answered the call to do what would could to help people in need.

One might wonder what the connection would be between United Methodist churches in Columbus, Ohio and Andrews, South Carolina.  However, those ties of our connectionalism as the UMC truly do run deep as members of Lead Pastor Curnell Graham’s home church, Asbury UMC, were among those affected by the floods.

After an invitation from Pastor Graham, Linworth faithfully and generously answered a call to donate to the relief efforts and raised several thousand dollars that had an immediate impact in South Carolina.  Linworth hasn’t stopped there, though.

After Thanksgiving, a team consisting of Pastor Graham and a team of 8 Linworth members traveled to South Carolina to further assist in a hands-on way.  The Linworth team was able to put drywall up and continue the restoration work for two different homeowners in the community.  The work done by the Linworth team was featured by the West Ohio Conference for their remarkable efforts.

Our journey with our brothers and sisters in South Carolina is just beginning, though.  There is still much work to be done and Linworth looks forward to sending future teams down south to continue to build and strengthen these relationships in ministry.
