On Sunday, June 7, we look forward to celebrating the sacrament of Holy Communion, even though it will look and feel different since we are still worshiping while physically separated from one another. Each time we join in Holy Communion, we are reminded that Jesus invites us to the table, not a certain church building or worship service. Jesus invites all people to join in not only this holy meal but in his grace and love. You are invited to gather your own elements from this Sunday’s Communion service:
– Gather Bread and Cup – the bread and wine Jesus shared with the disciples were common, so choose a piece of bread or cracker that is common in your household. Nothing special! Same with the wine/juice.
– Engage in worship – During the service you will hear invitation to the table and instructions for partaking as a community even though we are separated.
One of my favorite pieces of music is the song “Beautiful Things” by Gungor, and it is a powerful reminder that God makes beautiful things out of our faults and failings. God makes extraordinary things out of the ordinary. I trust that even in this non-traditional practice of Holy Communion, God’s powerful Spirit will make something Beautiful and Holy out of our celebration.
